Cruising in the Mediterranean

If you are thinking about a cruise holiday, the default mental association would be the Caribbean or the Mediterranean. Here is some information on the Mediterranean and what makes it so hugely popular with tourists on cruise holidays.

Cruising the Mediterranean allows you to discover idyllic islands, most have the spectacular beaches that you might see on a holiday brochure or postcard that look infinitely tempting. Many destinations also benefit from year round sunshine, so you can see why this is a popular cruise destination!

Greece is a perfect stop on a Mediterranean cruise . With destinations like Katakolon that are perfect for lounging on the beach or seeing art or historical attractions. Olympia is just north of Katakolon, here you can see many amazing ruins of ancient Greek buildings such as a stadium and workshop. The birth place of the modern day Olympics and the site where the ancient Greeks honored their god Zeus is a must see on your cruise.

Italy is another popular stop on cruises . The beautiful country offers some of the best sites and attractions in the world. Venice is one of the most well known, renamed for being romantic and beautiful. Taking a gondola ride around the city on a sunny day could be a perfect romantic afternoon on your cruise holiday. Venice is truly a unique and wonderful experience worthy of a holiday in its own right let alone as part of a larger holiday.

Alexandria in Egypt can never fail to inspire . The ancient and second largest city in Egypt dates back to 332BC. There is a wealth of historical architecture here to see including a Roman Amphitheater, Pompeii's Pillar and the second century catacombs of Kom ash-Shuqqafa. The ancient city has been home to many historical figures such as Cleopatra and Julius Caesar.

These are just some of the common destinations on a Mediterranean cruise, others include Croatia, Cyprus, Tunisia and Turkey. It is not surprising that the Mediterranean is often thought of when a cruise holiday is mentioned. This is because for many people a cruise in the Mediterranean is second to none, the holiday of a lifetime.
